Give a little something to the world this month

During the month of December, all profits made from the advertisements on this page will be given to the American Red Cross.

I've just been thinking about how bad this year really has been in terms of natural disasters, most notably with the tsunami early this year, and the series of hurricanes that hit towards the end. We have to remember that there are millions and millions of people out there who are not as fortunate as we are. Whereas we fret over petty little matters like what we'll get for Christmas this year, there are millions who fret over whether or not they'll have something to eat this Christmas. Or if they'll have somewhere warm to stay. If you are reading this post, I am willing to assume that you have a computer with some sort Internet access, and if you have those sorts of luxuries, chances are you never have to worry about having food on the table.

An approximate 275,000 are known to be dead from the Indian Ocean tsunami and 1,383 are known to be dead from Hurricane Katrina. As for the rest of the millions affected, they are staring unemployment and homelessness straight in the eye. And with unemployment comes overall financial insecurity. Financial insecurity so bad, that especially in the Indonesia, which was hit the worst by the tsunami, that people are starving to death.

And making a donation doesn't just mean giving money. Although that is a common form of donation, you can also make a donation to the American Red Cross by donating stock, your spare change at a Coinstar machine, your blood, your tissue, or even your airline miles.

All I ask is that you join me in the act of giving. We should be thankful for what we have, and we should give to those who aren't as fortunate as we are. So you know what to do. It won't necessarily take your money, or your time. Although one could say that there is no reason not to, what you need to remember is that there is every reason in the world to.
